The Big Issue (also known as: things about the governing bodies of the world that i disagree with)

as we all know, and have seen more than frequently, the governments of our modern day society are not exactly adept at maintaining and caring for the environment (the problem with having the lead poison generation in power, i fear)many people have pointed out that there seems to be an increasing amount of promises with no return on the side of the governments. great policies and plans regarding taking climate action in following years get signed and boasted about every year, yet we have yet to see any real results coming from it. this doesnt mean that there are no countries who have made real efforts towards approaching net zero, because there are many that have, but the amount is just too small to offset anything. along with this, theres a lot of disagreements between countries on what they want and how theyll enforce these rules.essentially, rather than focusing on the environment and the long-term benefits of caring about it, too many are bending to the will of corporations and the allure of short term profit. and this creates a problem: environmental damage! climate change! global warming! habitat loss! that they do nothing about even though they say that they will!tl:dr; governments are too focused on money and theyre taking the rest of us down with them :c

WHY ITS A PROBLEM ??

the environment is being destroyed by a bunch of money hungry megalomaniacal fossils, and noones doing anything about it!by prioritising economic gain and growth over the health of the environment and the planet, modern day politicians are guaranteeing a cushy pensioner life for themselves and a climate crisis for the rest of us! how quaint.
as well as this, by only listening to the voices of the rich and the investors, the governments are basically saying to the people that our opinions dont matter, unless we are the rich and powerful.
this is obviously a problem, because the government is supposed to represent the people, and its primary purpose is to make decisions in the interest of the people.money talks! to politicians, that is. when big corporations are allowed to do basically whatever they like, and given so much freedom to ruin the environment for their own monetary gain, without any thought towards sustainable or regenerative practices, its inevitable that something would go very wrong somewhere down the line. which is what we see happening now. higher average temperatures, visible rises in sea level, more severe weather events, microplastics in nearly everything...

Notes:
the things listed here are pertaining to acknowledging the things under the rug. essentially, we want to make more people aware or at the very least cautious of the things that they see, and to hopefully make people start questioning the real source of the problem.

What we can do

Obviously, you know, protest, speak up about it online or in person, do everything to spread the knowledge and information. the enemy of progress is ignorance, and its important that everyone is on the same page. some people dont know about the consequences of the actions that our governments take, and some are more than happy to continue to ignore those consequences, content to turn a blind eye. we cant help those people who choose to not know, but we can help those who dont know and are willing to learn.repost information, spread news through word of mouth at events, at celebrations, through conversation. in this age of connectivity and information, where news runs faster than the wind, its so much easier to spread ideas. but its also so very easy to spread misinformation, so be very very careful yall.besides protesting and spreading information, there are also many non-government organisations out there aimed towards environmental action. from ocean cleanups to reforestation efforts, there is no lack of ways to contribute personally. if you cannot volunteer to work yourself, most NGOs also accept donations to be able to afford more resources that further their goals.if you are old enough to vote, you can also try and choose a better leader at the next election, to vote for someone who you believe you can trust. heck, even something small like a state representative could make a drop of difference. now, that drop might seem small at the moment, but a drop still makes a ripple in the water's surface.
